GPR8 is here!

The third edition of one of the sector’s most respected and widely used resources — the Good Practice Review (GPR8) — is now available, marking a bold and necessary shift in how we understand and practise humanitarian security risk management (SRM).

Published by the Humanitarian Practice Network (HPN) in collaboration with Humanitarian Outcomes, this edition reflects how the security landscape has evolved — and how SRM must now adapt to current realities, including digital threats, unequal access to protection, and the ways in which gender, role, and decision-making power shape individuals’ exposure to risk.

The edition opens with a foreword co-authored by INSSA’s former Board Chair, Michael O’Neill, reflecting on the journey of professionalising humanitarian security — and the work that still lies ahead.

“This edition of GPR8 brings to life the shifts we’ve been calling for: it moves us from compliance to consciousness, from procedures to people, and from isolated decisions to collective responsibility. It’s the most grounded and forward-looking edition we’ve seen.”
— Javeria Ayaz Malik, INSSA Board Chair

We encourage our global community — from SRM professionals to senior leadership and frontline teams — to engage with GPR8 and use it as both a reference and a springboard for reflection and change.
