Marieke van Weerden has worked in NGO security management, incident management and training for over ten years. She worked as a security advisor and trainer supporting national and international NGOs, embassies and universities. She is currently the Director of Safety and Security at Catholic Relief Services (CRS).
Marieke has previously worked with VSO International, where in additional to VSO's security management she was responsible for the ICS Consortium, a consortium of ten development agencies working with 60,000 national and international young aid workers in three years. She has also done work for International Relief and Development (IRD), the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Humanitarian Academy at Harvard, AMREF Flying Doctors, and Amnesty International.
In addition to her position at CRS she continues to advise NGOs and universities on security and crisis management. Marieke’s academic background is in History, International Organisations and Human Rights.
